Letter
In December 2021 I sat down to write a letter that I knew I wouldn’t deliver. It was a healing process for me, something that had been going on for years, and I still needed to get some closure.
In 2022 Meg Mac released a new album, Matter of Time. We went to the presentation of the album in Sydney with my partner and a few friends. I liked the album a lot, but at the time I didn’t know which song was my favourite.
In 2023 we went again to see Meg Mac, this time at Long Jetty Festival, in the Central Coast. I remember the first song of the band starting when we were in the queue where they check IDs. We ran to the closest spot from where we could see a bit of the stage and there we stayed.
It started raining. Which in a spiritual setting like a festival it’s more a blessing than an inconvenience - a part of the experience. And then it started: the one song that this time I knew was my favourite of the album, Letter. I hugged my partner, and I let go of my emotions. I remembered the letter I wrote, and how it hurt not to say goodbye, how they helped me become who I am, and how I will miss them always, even though they is with me always in a way, and I sent them my love. The rain was a good camouflage to hide tears, but I was wearing them proud anyway.
Writing a letter to get closure is a beautiful thing. Having also a song to sing together in a festival, with everyone resonating with what that letter means to each one of us, is powerful. Thanks, Meg for that song ♫.
If you ever go to a festival, and it rains, buy merch, it’s dry.
