Today I want to share another phrase, one that I saved while watching Chef’s Table episode on Jeong Kwan. I might be paraphrasing, but this is what I wrote down:

Freedom is to be able to get in or out of your mind whenever you need to.

The first idea that I have when reading this phrase in my notes is that I find it empowering. It isn’t easy to tame our minds - to use the mind as a tool and prevent it from taking control over us when it doesn’t need to be in control. But it is accessible 😄. Meditating is something we can do at home, on the bus or even while walking. There are thousands of approaches to it, and the only important thing is to find the one that works for us.

While writing this article I remember the book The Power of Now - my first encounter with meditation. It’s been a long time since I read it. I remember that it appeared in my life just at the right moment: at the time I was a very young professional leading a team of seasoned, more experienced people. I felt unprepared for the position, and I was quite stressed for a few months. Meditation appeared in the form of a book, and I applied what I understood from it for a few minutes every morning. It helped me go through it.

If you feel trapped, alone, or overwhelmed, maybe freedom, as understood by Jeon Kwan, can help you.
